More than five hundred rare plants like Analivegam – natural anti venom for snake bites, Cola Plant, Karpooram, Krisnanal, Rudhraksham, Kunthirikam, Maravuri, Bhoothamkolli etc. are available in this garden. Eupatorium triplinerve

Malayalam Name: Ayyappana        Plant pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, dyspepsia, hemorrhage, hemoptysis, menorrhagia, wounds, edema, ulcers, stomatitis, cardiac debility, skin diseases, poison bites, cough, asthma, bronchitis and general debility. Intake 4-5 leaves twice a day (morning & evening) for 15 days- most of the types of piles will cure.

Wrightia tinctoria

Malayalam Name:Dhanthappala A plant with unique properties to relive the symptoms of Psoriasis and Eczema. Take leaves and coconut oil in 1:1 ratio. Mix and keep in direct sunlight for 7 days- the oil color will change into violet color. Apply the oil in the affected area and wait for one hour. After clean with pea powder.  Do this for 15 days and the psoriasis disease will be cured.

Jatropha multifida

Malayalam Name: Churakkalli Also known as ‘ Burnol Plant ‘. Plant pacifies kapha, pitta, inflammation, fresh wounds, ulcers and skin diseases. Latex is applied for fresh wounds, and it exhibits antibacterial activity.

Annona muricata

Malayalam Name: Mullatha Plant used in  vitiated pitta, constipation, burning sensation, bacterial infections, parasites, hypertension, depression, fever, viral infections, malignancy and general tonic. Root decoction is a powerful purgative. Powdered seed kills body and hair lice on external application. Graviola is used as a sedative and to treat infections, herpes, and cancer. The fruit is used for curing cancer disease.

Rhinacanthus nasutus

Malayalam name: Nagamulla Whole plant is used in cancer disease, sexual desire etc. It is also used for treating other dermatoses including scruf, eczema and herpes. The roots are also considered an antidote to bites of poisonous snakes.

Pittosporam tetraspermum

Malayalam Name: Analivegam The juice taken from the bark is used as an anti-medicine for snake bite.

Malayalam Name:Agar wood Agar or Attar tree is a tropical deciduous tree, which is very valuable for its transformed wood which on distillation yield Agar oil which has high export value.

Ailanthus excelsa

Malayalam Name:Simaruba Plant pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, diarrhea, dysentery, worm infestations, skin diseases, gynecological diseases, fever, and found to be effective in Leukemia.

Alangium salvifolium

Malayalam Name:Ankolam

The seeds of Alangium salvifolium Linn. have been traditionally reported to exhibit a variety of biological activities, including antidiabetic, anticancer, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, laxative, and antiepileptic activities. It is anti-hypertensive, antidote for several poisons especially for rabies. Roots are useful for external application in case of rheumatism and inflammation. Fruits are used in treatment of hemorrhages.

Morinda citrifolia

Malayalam Name:Inoni The green fruit, leaves, and root/rhizomes were traditionally used in Polynesian cultures to treat menstrual cramps, bowel irregularities, diabetes, liver diseases, and urinary tract infections.

Cinnamomum camphora

Malayalam Name:Camphor

Bark is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, analgesic, analeptic, anthelmintic, antispasmodic, aromatic, aphrodisiac, carminative, diaphoretic, sedative, stimulant, narcotic and tonic. It is used as nervine depressant in case of hysteria, epilepsy, chorea and convulsions. It acts as stimulant for cardiac, circulation and respiration. It is useful in measles, typhoid, whooping cough, asthma, and hiccup. It is recommended in case of cough, cold, toothache and liver disorders. Camphor oil is antihelmintic, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, cardiotonic and sedative. It is used for treating joints and muscle pains, cold sores and skin diseases. Camphor oil is best used for sedating nervy types particularly when associated with depression. Also used an aromatherapy diffuser or vaporizer.

Elaeacarpus ganitrus

Malayalam Name: Rudraksham A holy plant. The seeds are used for making chains and also for cough, liver diseases, nervous diseases, dysentery and diarrhea.

Dorstinia vernia

The whole plant is used for cancer diseases.

Anaphyllum wightii

Malayalam Name: Keerakhizhangu The rhizome is used against cobra bite.

Trichopus zeylrnicus

Malayalam Name: Arogyapacha Fruits and leaves are used for stamina, immunity and vitality. The kani tribes of Kerala eat the fruits to overcome hunger and thirst. Recently an ayurvedic medicine known as ‘Jivani’  is prepared from this plant.

Rare Fruits

Nephelium lappaceum –(Rambuttan)

The trees are cultivated for their very popular fruit. The juicy sarcotesta around the seed is usually eatable. Rambutan fruit is consumed fresh, as well as canned and processed into jams.

Garcinia mangostana(Mangosteen)

The fruits primarily consumed fresh, but is also canned and used to make juices and jellies. The fruit rind is ground and used in the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery, and for skin diseases. A tea made from the leaves and bark is used to lower fever and for urinary disorders. The tree, with its glossy green leaves and symmetrical shape, is also a beautiful ornamental.

Passiflora edulis( Passion fruit)

The passion fruit is round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passion fruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance the aroma.

Durio zibethinus( Durian)

Durian pulp is usually consumed fresh, but it is also used to flavor ice cream, cookies and candies, or preserved by canning, freezing, drying, boiling with sugar, fermenting, or salting.  It is also used to prepare sauces and relishes.  The seeds are edible, eaten after boiling, frying or roasting.  Young shoots and unripe fruit are cooked and eaten as a vegetable. The fruit is believed to have medicinal properties, restoring health to humans and domestic animals.  Leaf, fruit and root extracts are used to reduce fever, and in treatment of jaundice, swelling and skin diseases.

Ficus carica( Edible Athi)

Figs can be eaten fresh or dried, and used in jam-making. Most commercial production is in dried or otherwise processed forms, since the ripe fruit does not transport well, and once picked does not keep well. The latex of fig fruit (Ficus carica) has been used in several traditional herbal medicine remedies, most of them aimed to treat skin viral infections.

Citrus limetta (Moosamby)

The pulp is greenish and the juice is sweet rather than acidic. Mosambi (sweet lime) juice is the most common available citrus juice inIndia,  It is also a good source of vitamin C, copper and iron. The acids present in the sweet lemon juice are great for doing away with toxins found in the bowel tracts. Mosambi juice is also beneficial for people with stomach upsets, dysentery, diarrhea and loose stools since it is rich in potassium. It helps avoid vomiting and nausea as a result of its tasty flavor.

Litchi chinensis(Lichy)

The handsome tree develops a compact crown of foliage, bright green the year round. The fruits, produced in clusters, are oval to round, strawberry red in colour, and about 25 mm (1 inch) in diameter. The brittle outer covering encloses white, translucent, watery flesh and one large seed. The fruit is eaten fresh, canned, or dried, as the litchi nut of commerce. The flavour of the fresh pulp is musky; when dried, it is acidic and very sweet.

Persea americana(butter Fruit/ Avocado)

A rapidly-growing tree or shrub,avocado is well-known for its edible, green-fleshed fruits. Avocados have been cultivated for their highly nutritious fruits . It is eaten in salads and desserts and used as a sandwich filling and an ingredient in dips and spreads (such as guacamole), ice-creams and milkshakes.

Fragaria ananassa( Strawberry)

It is cultivated worldwide for its fruit, the common strawberry. The fruit (which is not a botanical berry, but an aggregateaccessory fruit) is widely appreciated for its characteristic aroma, bright red color, juicy texture, and sweetness. It is consumed in large quantities, either fresh or in prepared foods such as preserves, fruit juice, pies, ice creams, and milkshakes. Artificial strawberry aroma is also widely used in many industrialized food products.

Nephelium mutabile (Pulasan fruit)

The fresh ripe fruit is eaten raw. The flesh is slightly juicy and sweet. The seed is edible and tastes like almond. Pulasan can be frozen or dried and used to flavor ice cream and puddings. It can also be made into preserves, jams, jellies and sauces. Diabetics can eat this fruit. It reduces the body fat. So it is good for people who are obese.

Tamarindus indica (Sweet tamarind)

Tamarind is a fruit that is popular in the foods of Southeast Asia, North Africa andIndia. While tamarinds are typically sweet and sour in flavor, they tend to become sweeter as they ripen. Due to their sweet, robust flavor, tamarinds are common in candies, chutneys, jams, desserts, steak sauces and Worcestershire sauce. In addition to its high energy and fiber content, the tamarind is a great source of B-vitamins and a number of minerals.

Cola nitida(Kola Tree)

The kola nut is the fruit of the kola tree. The caffeine-containing fruit of the tree is sometimes used as a flavoring ingredient in beverages. The nuts taste bitter when chewed at first but they leave a sweet taste in the mouth later. Thus chewing cola nuts before drinking water helps to render the water sweeter.

The nuts are enriched with many health-benefiting nutrients that are essential for optimum health. Pistachios are delicious tree nuts recognized for their wholesome nutrition principles. Chrysophyllum cainito (Jamaican Star Apple)

The flesh of the Jamaican star apple is best when eaten fresh, it has a pleasant sweet taste which goes well in salads, drinks and other dishes. The skin is really thick but soft when fully ripe. It is also taste bitter, however spooning out the pulp would be a good idea to avoid the unpleasant rind

BAMBOOS

  1. 1.    Giant Bamboo(Dendrocalamus giganteus)

Dendrocalamus giganteus also known as Giant Bamboo or Dragon Bamboo is a giant tropical and subtropical clumping species native to Myanmar (Burma), Bhutan, China and Thailand. It is considered the tallest bamboo in the world. In North-Eastern States of India the culm is used for building purposes, boat masts, vases, buckets, and various other decorative purposes.

Decoction of leaves and nodes and silicious matter is used in the traditional medicine.
